Sword lessons

I walked around the arena.I started swinging my sword around.I hope someone came soon,cause I was getting bored.

I looked at my blade closely, observing the tiny scratches already there, although I just got the new sword that had never been used. I flipped my brownish-blonde hair out of my face. I wasn't really sure using a sword would be my thing, but what the heck, it was worth a try."Hey,"I said to the sword instructor. I think I remember hiring him. "Your name's...Mike, right?" I asked, hoping I got it right.

"Sorry 'bout that. I'm not really good with names," I gave an apologetic smile. I shook his hand. "I'm Maximum Ride."

"It's okay.So,have you ever fought with a sword before?"I glanced at the sword she was holding.It had scratches,which meant that it had seen action before.That was good,I hate it when people think that a sword was only good if it was shiny and new.I judge a sword on how much action it has seen,because if there were no scratches,that would mean the person was just wasting the sword."That is a fine sword,"I said,nodding to the sword.

"I've never fought with it yet. But Fang gave it to me. He said he'd found it in the woods. In the clearing with the shreds of tents and the logs."I looked down at it. "It looks like someone fought with it before. I just don't know who," I frowned. "Oh, and no, I've never fought with any kind of sword. Yet," I added and shrugged.

"Okay.Tell me,would you rather fight with one hand or two?I need to know so I know what fighting style to teach you."I leaned on my sword while i waited for her answer.

"What do you mean?" I asked stupidly. Oh great, the "wonderful" Maximum Ride didn't even know sword fighting styles. "I guess one hand?" I said, but it sounded more of a question than an answer.

"It basicly means would you rather fight with or without a shield.Two handed is more focused on power,and one handed is more focused on speed and finess,hitting your opponents where they are weakest."

"Oh. I don't really like shields. But I'd still rather do one hand, not two..." L I drifted off, looking at the sky. I looked back waiting for his answer.

"That is fine,Idon't like shields either,but I fight one handed.OK,now lets see how good you are."I swung at her right side,but I did it slowly,so if she couldn't block it I could stop.

I nodded when he said he didn't use a sheild either. Then he slowly swung his sword at me. I froze. I lifted up my blade to intersect it. But too late, I already jumped out of the way. You've got to be more assertive and sure of yourself, Max, the voice told me. Ahh, shut up, I retorted.

"Oh, I dunno," I shrugged glumly. Maybe I wouldn't be good with a sword. Maybe this was a mistake. Why did I come here again?

This time, I clashed my blade with Dylan's. The noise kind of startled me, but I at least stopped the attack. I lowered my sword. "How was that?" I asked shakily, hoping I didn't make a fool of myself again.

"That was good.It shows you have good reflexes.Try to do this."I threw my sword in the air,kicked an invisible enemy in front of me,the caught the sword and stabbed an imaginary enemy behind me.

"Okay, I'll try," I said. But I mixed it up. I stabbed the invisible enemy in front. Then I threw my sword in the air, kicked behind me, and clumsily missed the sword. It clattered on the ground. I could feel my face turn bright red. Since when was I a klutz? I snatched the sword up.

Oh yah, I felt like using a big size xD

I repeated the stabs and slashes, messing up once or twice. At least I didn't mess 'em all up. That's right, Max, the Voice said. Shutupshutupshutupshutup, I told it. "How's that?"I asked about my slashes.

I lifted my sword up the same way I did before. I winced at the sound of the clash of metal. I never did like that sound. I forced my sword up, trying to knock Dylan's out of his hand.

I pulled my sword away.I feinted right,then swung left.
